At 15 years old, Sam Kirker started looking for his first job—but found he was too young to get hired. So, he started reselling items online. SJK Enterprises, a business that Kirker describes as an “online thrift store,” was born in 2016 and has since grown into a nationwide, multichannel retailer that partners with grocery and pet brands to manage their eCommerce operations.
SJK Enterprises came a long way from their modest roots, but they were still struggling to fulfill quickly across the country. With their warehouse located in the Midwest, getting items to other parts of the U.S. was a complicated—and expensive—challenge.

“We were struggling with delivery speeds. If we’re in Illinois and customers are on the coasts, we can’t get orders to them in a day or two without paying a ton for shipping.”
Sam Kirker,
CEO, SJK Enterprises
Managing fulfillment on their own became overly complex, with their lean team sometimes struggling to fulfill large order volumes. It was also a challenge to staff the right number of employees, with order counts varying significantly from one day to the next.
GOALS
Deliver fast nationwide
Reduce fulfillment costs
Simplify order management
SJK Enterprises knew they needed a better solution to scale their operations, so they turned to Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) to pick, pack and ship items in two days or less. This helps them reduce delivery times at a lower cost than they can achieve on their own.
To deliver even faster, SJK Enterprises leveraged WFS Inventory Transfer Services to distribute their products across the country. After sending their inventory to a single WFS location, the program strategically positions it in over a dozen fulfillment centers. This puts their products closer to customers who want them, enabling next-day delivery to a wider area.
With the help of WFS and Inventory Transfer Services, SJK Enterprises has sped up shipping, reduced fulfillment costs and scaled growth on Walmart.com. They’ve recently gone all in on the program, ramping up fulfillment through WFS to as much as 97% of their orders in recent months.1

The Strategic Breakdown
Accelerated fulfillment from coast to coast
WFS and Inventory Transfer Services enabled SJK Enterprises to ship 42 times more next-day orders compared to their self-fulfilled volume.2 Kirker describes Inventory Transfer Services as, “plugging into the infrastructure of tomorrow without a lot of effort.”

Saved on fast shipping speeds
Shipping fast no longer means increased costs and reduced margins. SJK Enterprises sees 13% lower fulfillment costs for certain items.3 Savings have been especially impactful for items under 1 lb., which were expensive to ship in small volumes.
Streamlined warehouse operations
With Inventory Transfer Services, SJK Enterprises only needs to worry about sending inventory to a single fulfillment center rather than shipping orders individually. This helps them increase efficiency by making their staffing requirements more predictable.

For 99% of sellers, you need to be using WFS because you can’t replicate the delivery speed, you can’t replicate the service—and customers trust items fulfilled by Walmart.

CEO, SJK Enterprises
Now that Kirker lets WFS handle the complexities of fast fulfillment, he has more time to focus on growth. The result is a tangible change in the way he manages his business. “My entire role has essentially shifted from being a warehouse manager to the owner of a company—managing strategy, content and marketing for our brands versus just picking and packing orders,” he says.
