Saving money and living better isn’t just a promise — it’s at the heart of what we do at Walmart every day. That means offering the right products at the right prices, but it also means listening to our customers and evolving to meet their needs. Whether it’s families shopping for household essentials or businesses purchasing office supplies, we’re here to make life easier, more affordable and more connected.

For the many businesses we serve, that commitment extends beyond just great products — it’s about providing the right tools, insights and solutions to help them operate efficiently and grow. To better understand the needs of small and medium businesses (SMBs) and nonprofits, Walmart Business commissioned a survey1 of nearly 500 decision-makers. The results were clear: growth is the priority, but operational challenges are holding them back.

Our survey results indicated that for most SMBs, sales and marketing are the top focus areas for 2025, but they anticipate that nearly 40% of their workweek will be spent on administrative tasks like:

  • Managing spend and cash flow (79%)
  • Managing inventory (65%)
  • Managing payroll (51%)

That’s time pulled away from attracting customers and driving growth — the things that matter most.

We heard loud and clear that SMBs need better tools to save time, cut costs and operate more efficiently. When we dug deeper, four key themes stood out:

Better inventory solutions: One-in-three businesses surveyed rely on “out of stock” triggers to reorder, rather than structured monitoring or automation.

More online options: A majority of those surveyed plan to keep or increase their purchasing mix from marketplaces in 2025, as a powerful alternative to managing multiple direct supplier relationships.

Cost-efficiency is key: 75% of SMBs surveyed actively look for membership rewards and discounts when making routine purchases.

Faster fulfillment matters: Bulk orders and same-day delivery are must-haves for routine purchases such as tech, supplies and workplace food needs.
