A year ago, we announced a new partnership with the eCommerce shopping platform Shopify, enabling over one million Shopify sellers to apply for and sell on Walmart Marketplace. Shopify sellers would have the opportunity to reach nearly 120 million unique monthly visitors on Walmart.com and our customers will be able to shop a much richer assortment as a result.
Building on a successful partnership with Shopify
The addition of the Marketplace integration app for Shopify has been a tremendous success. Since the announcement, we’ve onboarded thousands of Shopify sellers to the Walmart Marketplace platform, a number far above our original goal of bringing on just 1,200 sellers by the end of 2020. The launch date of our partnership could not be timelier: as many brick-and-mortar businesses started adjusting their operations to embrace the online commerce world, Walmart Marketplace app for Shopify came in as an easy tool that helped them setup and scale quickly.
We haven’t just been adding sellers and new assortment to Walmart.com, however. We’ve been listening to our new sellers, enhancing our integration with new functionality and creating training material to fuel seller success.
Now as we enter a second year of our partnership, we’re not resting on our laurels. We are continuing to onboard new Shopify sellers, adding features and seller-requested improvements to our app. Read on in this Sell Better Blog for more on our Shopify sellers and what we’re doing to enhance their experience with the Walmart Marketplace app for Shopify.

Thousands of sellers have come to Walmart through Shopify—here’s what they think
We’ve given the ability for thousands of Shopify sellers to list their products on Walmart Marketplace in an onboarding process that’s not too different from the regular Marketplace application procedure. Once onboarded, sellers have been happy with their experience and what they’ve been able to accomplish.
Michael Petratos runs Silver Rod Pharmacy, one of the largest independent pharmacies in New York with a physical and online presence centered in Brooklyn—and a growing business on Walmart Marketplace, thanks to the Shopify app.
“In general it’s been a very good experience compared with other marketplaces,” he said. “We were able to scale quickly and are still growing fast with a majority of sales coming from Walmart.” Silver Rod has also qualified to earn the Pro Seller Badge, another feather in their cap. “We’re already a positive difference.”
Setup time and ease-of-use has also been a huge plus for some of our top sellers. “Everything is very easy, connecting Shopify to Walmart,” said Sara Cline of fashion company Milanblocks. “I don’t need to spend a lot of time doing it.”
Maintaining inventory has been another big hit with sellers. “The best aspect is that it’s fairly easy to add products, maintain and compare competitor prices,” Michael said.
“There’s a lot of things that click between us and Walmart. We’re really scratching the surface of what we can do.”

Improving the Shopify experience with your feedback
Since announcing our partnership with Shopify and releasing the first version of Walmart Marketplace in the Shopify app store, we’ve been releasing a series of updates aimed at improving the seller experience, adding more features, and addressing issues as they arise. A lot of these updates are based on feedback from our Shopify sellers, a valuable direct relationship that we are cultivating and growing in the years to come.
One of the biggest updates and most requested features is the Bulk Editor, which allows Shopify sellers the ability to edit listings at the sub-category level en masse from within the app easily. This will be incredibly useful for sellers wanting to quickly update hundreds or even thousands of items quickly for some of the more time-intensive processes like tax codes or Product ID fields in just a few clicks. You also can add fields in bulk, which can help your item’s listing quality and visibility in searches on Walmart.com. You’ll be able to set up bulk changes for variant options as well.
Many of our updates are centered around the seller experience with the Marketplace app. We addressed issues with order cancellation, proper sync with settings on the app and in Marketplace itself, and increased speed to load the app and item sorting. The time it takes for sellers to go through the approvals process to sell on Marketplace has been streamlined as well.
Finally, while continue to add new features to the app, we would still like to remind sellers that there are many more in-depth tools they can use in Seller Center to improve their catalog performance, sell better, and boost their bottom line. For instance, you can:
- Use the Listing Quality Dashboard to get a centralized overview and ways of optimizing their catalog’s listing quality, which can improve your catalog’s visibility, help you win the Buy Box, and generate more sales.
- Discover which of your catalog is Unpublished and what you can to get them back online quickly through direct action.
- See how you can get a Pro Seller Badge, a mark of excellence for top-performing sellers like Silver Rod Pharmacy.
